Description
Current Lot 1950s Philco Predicta "Penthouse" Television Model #4710. Late 1950s America's fascination with early "Space Age" technology manifested itself in unusual ways, with none more noticeable than the changes that occurred to cars and furniture. Modernism in furniture design evolved into "futurism," with more of a technological treatment, and less of the earlier "form follows function" stylings. Major furniture pieces from this unique period are exceedingly valuable today, extremely collectible for their stylized appearances. None are more sought-after than working examples of our homes' communication equipment, with Philco's hi-tech "Predicta" television sets among the most desired. The Predicta is known to collectors for its futuristic, swiveling stem design and the sleek contours of its golden chrome-plated supports and wire leg stands. It is also known for the grief it causes collectors in their search for complete, working examples. The offered television has its original factory-applied finishes, with expected overall wear from normal usage and time elements. This Predicta was an early attempt at "remote control." The separate 21" picture tube can be placed anywhere, being connected to the main chassis by a 25-foot-long flexible extension cable. The cabinet can be positioned for easy tuning and access. It originally cost $339.95 in this blonde finish. Please note: Due to the size and/or weight of this lot, the cost of shipping may be substantial.
